kreon lights up the Belgian pavilion at the 2020 world exhibition in Dubai
From October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, the Emirate of Dubai will host the Expo 2020 World Expo with the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future".
Our country will also be represented there with the Belgian pavilion “The Green Arch”, an architectural masterpiece in the form of a green arch with different levels. It includes a gourmet restaurant, retail spaces with Belgian design and fashion, a business center and a roof terrace with bar. kreon is part of the 100% Belgian lighting team together with two other Belgian lighting companies. This sponsorship emphasizes kreon's international position in the high-end architectural lighting world, with local expertise and presence in the most economically attractive regions of the world. Above all, kreon wants to show the visitor that lighting is an integral part of architecture and not just added afterwards.
Expo 2020 wants to be a world exhibition with a green footprint that is built as climate neutral as possible, with attention to sustainability, clean energy and circularity. This is an important fact for kreon as a sponsor. “The products are made from ecologically responsible materials. Our lighting profiles consist of +90% recycled eco-aluminium. If the pavilion is dismantled after the expo, kreon will recover the lighting and repurpose it or process it into new raw materials. Moreover, according to kreon, today lighting is part of a digital and connected universe that includes iOT and LIFI, marking a third impactful transformation in the sector after the introduction of halogen light and the arrival of LED lighting. Lighting thus forms an important part of the Expo theme “Connecting minds, Creating the Future”.
Lighting designed for architecture
With this sponsorship, kreon mainly wants to invest in lasting relationships and experiences, in valuable and interesting network locations and contacts and to emphasize its international position in the high-end architectural lighting world. But at the same time, kreon also wants to convey a specific message to the visitors. “In The Green Arch we mainly want to show that lighting is an integral part of architecture and not just added afterwards. Our lighting arises from architecture and is designed for that same architecture, without wanting to occupy a prominent position itself.
The three Belgian lighting companies illuminate the restaurant together, the other zones are mainly lit by one of the three players. The kreon products used were chosen for their innovation and matched to the architecture of the building. The two souvenir shops are lit with kreon oran and kreon nuit. kreon nuit sparkles in the entrance of the pavilion. kreon koi-s provides the necessary light in the office spaces. The restaurant is illuminated with 3 different kreon luminaires, kreon holon on-track, kreon kagi hangs above the bar and kreon up-glass provides the green border around the roof terrace with the necessary lighting. The passage to the auditorium and the toilets is lit with kreon kagi.
The Green Arch
BelExpo coordinates and organizes the Belgian participation in the world exhibition. The BEMOB-2020 group, consisting of contractors BESIX and Vanhout and the offices ASSAR ARCHITECTS and VINCENT CALLEBAUT ARCHITECTURES, were appointed by BelExpo for the design and construction of the Belgian pavilion "The Green Arch". The choice for, among others, kreon as sponsor was mainly made by these architects. BelExpo wants to show a green and smart Belgium and to showcase Belgian industrial, technological and scientific know-how internationally. According to Belexpo, the pavilion soberly and elegantly reflects "belgitude" and its main motive is to catalyze architecture, structure, energy, landscape and scenography as if the entire project had been drawn with one pen line.
